Blood Services

Starting as a war relief effort to provide life-saving blood for soldiers during World War II, Red Cross Blood Services has grown to become an industry leader — collecting and distributing half the nation's blood supply.

Q. How often can I give whole blood?
 
A. Every 56 days
 
Q. How long does it take to donate?
 
A. Usually one and an half hours
 
Q. Can I eat prior to giving blood?
  A. Yes, you should eat a balance meal prior to giving
   
Q. How old do I have to be to give blood?
  A. 16 years with parental permission,
  17 and up with no maximum age.
Q. How long do I have to wait to give blood after getting a blood transfusion?
 
 A. Deferred for one year.
