For nearly a century, the American Red Cross has prepared people to save lives through health and safety education and training. From first aid, CPR and blood borne pathogens training to swimming and life guarding, HIV/AIDS education and Babysitter's Training, American Red Cross Preparedness programs help people lead safer and healthier lives. The Red Cross constantly strives to respond to the preparedness concerns of Americans at home, in school and in the workplace.

Babysitting
The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course is to provide ALL youth ages 11 to 15 with information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or guardians. This training will help participant develop skills in leadership and professionalism, basic care, safety and safe play and first aid. Upon completion participants will receive a Putnam County Red Cross Recognition Award for the completion of Babysitting Training signed by the executive director of the Putnam County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Bloodborne Patogens Training
This training module is designed for individuals who, while on the job may be exposed to blood or other body fluids that could cause infection. This addition provides information on how to prevent the spread of disease.

Sports Safety Training
The Purpose of the American Red Cross Sports Safety Training program is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to help provide a safe environment for athletes while they are participating in sports and, in an emergency, to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until advanced medical help arrives. Upon successful completion participants will receive an American Red Cross Sports Safety Recognition Card.

Lifeguard Training
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course is to teach lifeguard candidates the skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Upon successful completion participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate in Lifeguard Training/First Aid (3 yrs.) and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

Adult CPR with AED (see description below)
The purpose of this four hour American Red Cross Adult CPR course is to give individuals in the work place the knowledge and skills necessary to recognized and provide basic care for breathing emergencies until advanced medical personnel arrive an take over. Upon successful completion participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate in Adult CPR (1yr.).

AED (Automated External Defibrillation)
The objectives of this 80 minute class is to obtain knowledge in links in the Cardiac Chain of Survival, what defibrillation is and how it works; the role of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in cardiac arrest; the general steps for the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and precautions when using an AED.

First Aid
The purpose of this five hour American Red Cross course is to give participants in the workplace and at home the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic first aid care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive to take over. This course does not include information on breathing or cardiac emergencies. Upon successful completion participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate in First Aid (3 yrs).

Infant and Child CPR
Learn the skills needed to prevent, recognize and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive. This course covers first aid and child & infant CPR and features hands-on practice and real-life scenarios. Useful take-home course materials help you retrain skills and serve as an excellent refresher and reference tool after training is complete.

Communicable Diseases
Taught by a certified Red Cross instructor, this class teaches the prevention, recognition, and management of communicable diseases. Topics include hygienic control measures, immunization schedules, health policy guideline, and sick child care. Length: 6 hours

CPR for the Professional Rescuer
This course combines a participant's manual, lectures and video with hands-on skills training to cover the following areas:
- Responding to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants.
- Using an AED on adult and child victims of cardiac arrest
- Using personal protective equipment to stop bloodborne pathogens and other diseases from spreading. Certificates valid for two years.

First Aid: Monday, June 21, 6:30 pm-9:30pm at the Annex Building. Call to register.
CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider: Saturday, July 10 at 9:00am. Those interested in just testing out of the course needs to come at 8:30am. Call the office to register for the course.
Adult CPR with AED: Monday, June 28, 6:30pm-9:30pm at the Annex Building. Call to register.
Infant and Child CPR: TBA
